Here’s a list of some of our favorite lakes in Dallas to cool down from the Texas heat:
Lake Lavon
This beautiful lake is located southeast of Collin County. It is a staple for picnics, camping, hiking trails, and boating. Lake Lavon offers 16 parks, 244 picnic sites, nine boat ramps, and five campgrounds. If you want to swim, Anchor Bay Marina or Collin Park Marina are top choice. For those who are trail fanatics, you can enjoy the Trinity Trail, a 25-mile-long trail where you can explore nature at your own pace.

Cedar Creek Lake
Also known as Cedar Creek Reservoir, Cedar Creek lake is the fourth largest lake in Texas. Although the reservoir doesn’t have any beach spots, it has coves on the east side, perfect for swimming and water sports! You can also have a close wildlife experience at Llamaland Ranch campground, where campers can interact with llamas.
Spring Creek Estates and Mabank Meadows are located only 15 minutes from Cedar Creek Lake.
Lewisville lake
Lewisville Lake, perfect for fishing, swimming, boating, and all things water sports, is located in Denton County and is one of the most popular lakes in North Texas. The lake is surrounded by 9,000 acres of nature, where you can enjoy a hike or bike trails. One of the most popular features is Party Cove, near the center of the lake, which is a great spot if you want to sunbathe, listen to music, and have a fun time.
Bardwell Lake
One of the largest attractions in Ellis County, Bardwell Lake offers a total of 3,500 acres for swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing, and more. You can camp or picnic in one of its three parks. Rentals of paddle boards are available at Highview Marina.

Joe Pool Lake
Conveniently located just a short drive from the DFW Metroplex, this lake offers 7,500-acre perfect for fishing or swimming in the gravel beach. The breathtaking Cedar Hill State Park sits on the shore of the lake! During your visit, you can picnic, hike, bike, or camp in one of the 350 developed campsites.
Creekbend Estates in Red Oak is less than a 30 minute drive to the lake.
